In Book 1, their school bridge over the garden pond collapses during recess, and the trio sets out to design and build a better one before the end of the week. Each chapter maps to a stage in the engineering design process: identifying the problem, researching solutions, sketching designs, building a prototype, testing it, and improving it. The narrative is warm and funny — the first bridge attempt collapses spectacularly — but the engineering concepts are accurate and treated with respect throughout. At the end of every chapter, a one-page Make It Yourself section presents a simplified version of the chapter activity using common household materials: popsicle sticks, string, paper cups, and sticky tape. These activities have been classroom-tested in Malaysian primary schools and are designed to be completed in under thirty minutes. The series is written with Malaysia's KSSR Science and Design and Technology curriculum in mind, making it a practical companion to classroom learning as well as an engaging independent read for curious young thinkers.
